Earthing

In my mind’s eye, I am walking along the trail that parallels Rattlesnake Creek. Ironically, of all the hikes I took in the area, it was the one I was least concerned about encountering rattlesnakes. The “Bears Have Been Seen in the Area” posters gave me pause, but we like the same things: the shade of tall trees, juicy berries, and winter naps, so I decided seeing a bear would be okay.

My daily hikes helped transform me. As the uphill climbs strengthened my calves, thighs, and glutes, and steep descents forced me to brace my core muscles, something amazing was going on in my heart and soul. The air I was inhaling and exhaling was connecting me to Heaven and Earth in a way I can barely describe, but the joy that wells up within me when I remember it, I can hardly contain!

Ya know that feeling when you’re in a good mood, doing something you love, and you cross paths with people alone or people with dogs and want to share it with a smile, a wave, and perhaps a “hello” to the people AND the dog(s)? Some mornings I didn’t pass any people whatsoever, but I had plenty of souls to share my joy with! There were deer, squirrels, lots of birds and butterflies...and of course I shared energy with them. (Gotta say... I love it when a bird or butterfly flies near me and then flits along my path ahead of me!)

What I didn’t expect was the depth of connection I felt with the trees, the water, the wildflowers, and the mountains, themselves! As I was walking and praying, I wasn’t just sending prayers and reiki to the people I know and love who need healing (which I MOST CERTAINLY WAS), but also to Gaia herself. I’m sure you’ve heard of the wildfires, floods, earthquakes, etc. going on all over the globe. Mother Earth needs our attention as she shifts and changes.

You may not be ready to be talking with wild animals, trees, mountains, or even the wind – and that’s okay. My connection with them has been steadily increasing over the last five years to the place where I can no longer deny that I feel their energy, vibration, and messages. (And to my husband: Sorry Honey, I know admitting the angel communication thing was bad enough. It’s okay if people think I ‘m nuts. Anyone who knows you, knows you’re the pragmatic one! Thanks for sticking by me!) The bottom line is that the Earth needs us to recognize our connection with her. All life is one. All life is connected. And the best thing we can do right now is to send our love and prayers to the trees, the flowers, the water, and the wildlife to help balance what has gotten woefully out of balance.

A few years ago, my doctor suggested I look into “earthing”.  I kept it in the back of my mind, thinking she’s probably right – I would like it. Fast forward to the last week or so when I read an excerpt on earthing, which explained it, partially, as walking slowly through the woods, stopping to touch the trees, examine nature up close, and become one with the earth. If that’s what “earthing” is, I think I stumbled upon it on my walks – which sometimes went at a 3 ½ mph clip, and sometimes quite a bit slower.

My prayer is that you’re able to find this connection to the wind, the water, and the woods, and those that live there, and that you’re called to pray (or send positive vibes if praying isn’t your thing) for them too. If you’re really quiet, you may hear them answer back in gratitude!
