Coyote Sighting

I went “home” to help my mom for 10 days and came back to my life in a mood. In fact, my husband noticed and suggested I needed “a good night’s sleep and a new attitude”. It may have taken me more than one good night’s sleep. The number of emotions, stress, and obligations that had stirred up in me in my roles as daughter, sister, wife, mother, homeowner, friend, writer, and entrepreneur became too much. I had put my role as spiritual being on hold for too long and was no longer functioning from a place of peace and calm.

Today, between rainstorms, I headed outside for a short walk to help ground and center myself. I saw something new on the wooded path between my house and the lake: a coyote, jaunting toward me...and then off into the thicket. The edge of its tail looked like it had been dyed in the ink of black walnut shells. It was gorgeous!

I believe that we are constantly given signs and symbols to guide and encourage us, and it’s up to us to figure out what they mean.

Connecting with the coyote this morning got my attention. I feel the connection directly in my heart center – tightness, heaviness, and need for release, prompting me to take a deep breath.

A google search shows a few things for “coyote sighting spiritual significance”: a need to adapt to change is what stands out most glaringly for me. It also mentions trusting your instincts, keeping your sense of humor, and being aware of trickster energy. All of it applies, but it’s the being adaptable that is most applicable at this moment (probably because my card-pulls for my daily journaling have had the same message over the last few days!). The Universe is doubling down on this message in my life.

In fact, the 1988 Tanya Tucker lyrics have been going through my head lately.

There’s a tree out in the backyard that never has been broken by the wind

And the reason it’s still standing - it was strong enough to bend.

That’s it – the message for me, and for you if you’re reading this – BE STRONG ENOUGH TO BEND.

Don’t get so wrapped up in your plans and visions of what you wanted to happen, or how you thought things should go. Life is happening like a snow globe that’s been violently shaken, and until all the flakes settle, we don’t know what things will look like. Trust that everyone is doing their best. In fact, if you can help someone else who needs it, now is the time. Meanwhile, now is the time to adapt, to go with the flow. You won’t regret it.

Peace and love to you!
