Anxiety and Your GA

Heart palpitations. Fear. Shallow breathing. Racing thoughts. Doom.

Does this sound familiar?

Over the past couple weeks, nearly every person I’ve had an in-depth conversation with is suffering from some level of anxiety. It seems epidemic.

Why is it that fear is taking over our minds, and what can be done about it?

Besides, anxiety, the other theme of this past week has been Guardian Angels. Guardian Angels, or GAs, are our full-time best friend, with us from birth to death and beyond. The message that kept coming through is, “Don’t forget about me!”

Our GAs are here to help us, but due to the Spiritual Law of Free Will, they cannot interfere unless we ask for help (except in rare instances in preventing death when it’s not our time to go). When I was young, my parents taught me the Guardian Angel Prayer.

Guardian Angel Prayer

Angel of God, my Guardian, dear

For whom God’s love commits me here.

Ever this day be at my side

To light, to guard, to rule and guide.

I, in turn, taught my daughters when they were young. And it’s a great prayer, but if it’s the extent of your relationship with your GA, like it was for me, it’s time to form a friendship with your built-in BFF. Start talking to them regularly – asking for advice, for help, for a sign that they’re really there!

Our GAs want so badly to help us, especially when we are experiencing fear and anxiety. FEAR is often described as False Evidence Appearing Real. When we call on our angels for help, they can interrupt our thought patterns in several ways- perhaps a surprise text or phone call from someone special, spilling a drink, honking a horn, or playing your favorite song on the radio. They will also plant an idea in your head of something to do that will help you.

The energy has been really off lately, but it doesn’t seem to be something that’s going to abate anytime soon. We need practical tools in our toolkit to use at our Guardian Angel’s prompting.

At the risk of sounding like the tool for darn near everything that ails you- here we go:

  • Take DEEP breaths, all the way past your lungs to your diaphragm, so your belly puffs up. An audible SIGH as you exhale helps release what’s pent up in your body. If you can inhale 4, hold 4, exhale 4, hold 4, repeat...that’s great, but if all you can manage is the inhale and exhale with a sigh, do that. (Counting will give your brain something to do, though, so don’t discount it right away.)

  • Touch grass! I know this is a thing to tell people to do right now, but it’s good advice. Get outside: skin to grass, skin to tree bark, wade in the water while it’s still “warm”, breathe the fresh air, listen to the squirrels as they gather their winter stores and tell each other about it.

  • MOVE! Whether you move from one room to the next, put on some music for a dance party, or go outside to touch grass, it’s scientifically proven that moving helps change your thoughts. Have you noticed that you walk out of one room and forget what you were going to say? Use this to your advantage.

  • Focus on Right Now: Name 5 things you can see, 4 things you can hear, 3 things you can smell, 2 things you can feel, and 1 thing you can taste...this very moment. Notice that while you are doing this you are safe. If you were not safe, your adrenaline would kick in, and you would be on the run. YOU ARE SAFE.

  • Remember your track record. You have survived 100% of everything you have been through. 99.99999999% of scenarios you’ve come up with in your mind have not come to pass. This is not going to be the exception.

  • GRATITUDE! If you’ve taken my angel classes, you know that the first step to communicating with angels is gratitude. This is because gratitude raises your vibration. Fear cannot live where gratitude is. They just don’t vibe, so start making a list of everything you’re grateful for. It doesn’t matter how small it seems. Give thanks for weekends, your favorite song, that the air isn’t smokey right now, that you have the money to buy gas this week...even if it’s just ½ a tank! Whatever it is you are grateful for, your angels will work to help you get more!

  • Book a Reiki Session! Did you know that the Mayo Clinic has begun integrating Reiki into their treatment plans? Reiki has a natural calming effect on the body and energy field. It can help decrease physical pain, as well as anxiety. It can help you to sleep better. It relaxes the body, which helps release stress and tension. It’s a wonderful way to pamper yourself when things feel overwhelming.

If you are feeling overwhelmed and anxious right now, be sure to ask your GA for help, and then do at least one of the things on the list above to help yourself. You’ll be glad you did!
