What Were Your Moments Today?

“What were your moments today?”, my friend asked as we began our drive home? There was no judgment and no expectation, merely curiosity in her query. As I scanned my mind for moments that stuck out as significant, I recognized themes weaving them together: oneness and connection, a feeling of family amidst strangers, the telling of stories, and search for meaning from the past and anticipation of what’s to come.

What began as a last minute trip to a favorite spot became an incredibly healing day. The three of us have a new a special bond. We are healers, healing ourselves first and the wounds of our ancestors that are embedded within us. It is time for healing so that we can move into the future without the baggage of yesterday - our hearts aglow with the fire within us.

Healing can be painful, sometimes more pain-filled than the original injury. I know several people recovering from surgery currently. Nerves coming alive again can cause great physical pain. It is the same with emotional pain: as it heals, the time between breaths can be excruciating. However, healing contains something that the pain of injury does not. Healing holds hope. We know that on the other side of healing is something better. Our pain, whether physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual - when dealt with, transforms from injury to strength.

In the spiritual community, we call the “dealing with it” shadow work. Shadow work is going into the dark hidden places within us where things we consider shameful lurk (starting around age 7) and we shine a light on them. We notice that much of what we keep there is really no big deal. We also learn that that the antidote to these triggers hidden within us is love!

For example, one of my triggers is rejection. And I’m taking a longgggggg pause as I write this, knowing that I’m making myself vulnerable for more rejection by advertising one of my shadows. I also know that it’s the same shadow/trigger for nearly 100% of the population, so I’m being encouraged to keep writing. I’m also reminded that only 8% of people read my blogs to the end, so if you’re reading- thank you.

Rejection can show up in myriad ways and I do best when I remember that rejection is merely redirection. That doesn’t mean I don’t get sensitive when I’m feeling rejected, but by doing my shadow work, by loving that vulnerable part of myself wholly and completely, I don’t get triggered, or sensitive as much.

The angels want to remind us that they are here to help us. We don’t need to be so hard on ourselves. We are souls having a human experience. Most of us will never reach full enlightenment, but everything we do to feel that oneness and connection with the earth, with Divine, and with each other will be balm for our souls. It will make this experience easier, and our burdens lighter.

What were your moments today? Did you feel oneness and connection?
